The job
Castlecrag blocks are steep, green and tight on access, which rules out big machinery for most jobs. This one was done the old-fashioned way: our crew up on the roof, stripping the terracotta tiles by hand, then taking down the timber roof frame piece by piece.
Every tile, batten and rafter was carried out and loaded onto the truck as we went, so the site never turned into a rubble heap.
